The evolution of the color and the woody pattern

The Eucaprint Lacca AD MDP panel line, coated with Lacca (Lacquer) finishing, has High Definition technology besides a layer of more uniform varnish with greater depth. These are the features which provide the product with superior visual quality of the color and the woody pattern, with sophisticated colors and countless possibilities of patterns.


- Indicated for manufacturing residential furniture for rooms and bedrooms requiring maximum smoothness of the surface with reflection;
- Recommended for application on vertical and horizontal surfaces with a slight force.


MDP panel coated with high gloss varnish with excellent surface resistance. The back has the same standard decorative coating of principal or a Premium White coating.

The Eucaprint Lacca AD is supplied in panels stacked on pallets, according to the measures requested. To ensure the quality of the product, the packaging contains strips, angle plates and protection on the upper and lower surfaces.


Transportation and Handling

The pallets must be transported with forklifts or similar equipment, to avoid knocking the ends of the panels.
The floor of the body of the transporting truck must be clean, dry, even and without nails and screws sticking out or overlapping panels. Possible free spaces must be sealed.
During the transportation, the Eucatex panels must be protected with an impermeable tarpaulin.

The stacks must be blocked and supported by fastening cables. The points of the panels which undergo the action of these cables should also protected by angle plates.

The panels must be handled carefully and avoid their being dragged, knocked or subject to any friction when they are unloaded.


. The panel must be stored in a covered and ventilated place, on a flat platform or level floor, far from the action of the sun or rain;
. The storage must be executed horizontally, and never in the vertical position (with the edge in contact with the floor) or leaning against a wall;
. Periodically rotate the inventory to avoid problems arising from stocking. The panels are stored on wedges, with a maximum capacity of 700 mm high.

If it is necessary to stack the pallets, obey the following criteria:
. Stack pallets of equal size;
. Use wedges between the overlapping pallets to allow the handling of the material besides the correct ventilation between them;
. The distance between wedges should be approximately 50 to 70 cm;
. Respect the approximate distance of 2 meters from the covering;
. Include a cover on the pallet in ambiences with a high temperature, so that the excess heat does not alter the stability of the material;
. Do not drag the boards during the handling to avoid possible scratches.

1. Equipment for Manufacturing

The MDP panel can be worked on with conventional equipment for wood (used in joineries), or high production industrialized  equipment (usually found in serial furniture companies).
The basic joinery machines allow the manufacturing of furniture with high quality and added value MDP, together with panels in Tamburato (Hollow Cored  light weight  thick panel).
In the process of manufacturing furniture with MDP, the usual market tools and equipment are used.

1.1. Manual manufacturing

. Circular saw with scribe;
. Trimmer circular saw with scriber;
. Shaper;
. Mill;
. Plane;
. Bench drill or electric manual drill.

1.2. Serial manufacturing

. Horizontal section cutter;
. Trimmer circular saw;
. Edge gluer (small, medium. large size);
. Multiple drill.

2. Coordination with Panel and the MDP

2.1. Specifications of bottoms for furniture with HPP thick light weight panels:

Two types of board can be used for the bottoms of furniture with HPP:
. HPP  7.0 mm thick  board;
. Formidur hardboard LPL coated in 3.0 mm thickness in the same patterns, by using the channel, with a minimum distance of 10 mm from the edge.


3. How to cut

The HPP  panel can be cut in the usual market equipment or in a manual process. The quality of the cut depends upon the correct application of the tool, the machine used and the cut quality required.

3.1. Shelves and doors in MDP

For cutting raw MDP, it is not necessary to use saws with a scriber.

For manually cutting the MDP, which uses low pressure (LPL) melamine coating, it is advisable to use saws with hard metal teeth ( carbide tipped teeth ), with trapezoidal straight teeth.

To cut the low pressure (LPL ) coated material perfectly, on both the coated surfaces, it is advisable to use teeth with a scriber, which avoids splinters caused in the output of the main saw.

The equipment must be level and correctly fastened to the floor so that it does not impair the quality of the cut. The saw must have a height of 15 to 20 mm above the board to be cut.

If there is splintering in the finishing, the following items should be observed:
. The saw used in the equipment must be the hard metal type (Wídea type);
. Adjust the speed and advance of the cut;
. Observe if the axis of the saw is perpendicular to the cut;
. If the equipment vibrates a lot, the cut will be impaired. In this case the equipment manufacturer must be contacted.

3.2. Industrial cut

For the cut in equipment with horizontal and vertical section cutters, observe the following recommendations:

The parts must be cut individually, not being able to be cut in packets as the panels in MDP.

The saws recommended are of hard metal (carbide tipped teeth) with no  changes in the horizontal section cutter equipment.

3.3. How to drill

The drilling can be executed with the usual tools and equipment for wood, with quick steel or hard metal drill bits.

The drill can pass all the thickness of the panel or only one surface.

Avoid the part vibrating during the manual or automatic drilling process.

It is advisable to use templates for precisely determining the holes. For the coated panels it is advisable in certain equipment to use pressure shoes and wedges at the outlet of the drill bit.

4. How to glue edges

In the market there are countless edge types, but the MDP requires that the edge is always protected so as not to expose the material to risky situations. Therefore, it is necessary use edge strips on the panel tops.

4.1. Manual edge gluing

To cover the edges with PVC or PS edge strips, wood or plastic laminates, it is necessary first to sand the panel edge with fine sandpaper and clean the sanded surface for a perfect adherence.

The contact glue or material chosen for the edging should be applied to the strip, and never to the panel. Observe the recommendations of adhesives for each type of strip, in panels with and without heads.
The adhesives recommended for gluing edges of different types are the same as those used for wood.

The glue which runs on the surface should also be cleaned with recommended products (PVA and Urea-formaldehyde = water; contact glue = cloth with turpentine or glue remover). When gluing edge strips in very dark patterns, note the color of the glue so that it is equivalent to the pattern, for the finishing to be perfect.

For the end finishing, the strip excess should be eliminated with a chisel or manual tools especially indicated for this purpose, without damaging the low pressure (BP) surface.

In the market, there are manufacturers of PVC edge strips that sell manual tools so that the finishing of edges 2 mm thick is perfect.

Automatic equipment can be used for gluing the edge strips. There is small, medium and large equipment for this function, with different features.

4.2. Small and large equipment

There are no special conditions for gluing the strip in small equipment. However, the strip should be cut afterwards, manually or with small automatic equipment.

Important comments for a good quality of edge finishing:
. Periodic maintenance in the equipment;
. It is necessary to adjust the presser;
. Check the correct quantity of glue to be applied;
. The glue heating container must always be well lubricated;
. The shoes must not be worn;
. The conveyor must be lubricated once a day;
. Note the minimum measure of the part recommended for the equipment;
. The machine support must be perfectly level.

5. How to fasten parts

In recent years, the evolution of specific screws for each type of material, adhesives and fastening systems have efficiently replaced the use of the hammer and nail, mainly for the assembly and necessary disassembly of furniture. These innovations have come to accompany the trends of mobility of society, in that people are used to moving more and want to take their furniture with them.

5.1. Screwing

For particle panels, it is advisable to use special screws, as self-tapping with wider threads, and a strong body, and with a Philips screwdriver.

We always indicate pre-drilling with a diameter equal to the screw body. All drilling must respect a minimum distance of 10 mm from the panel edge.

Use sleeves whenever necessary to assemble and disassemble the furniture. Do not use a conic screw on the top, as it can cause splitting.

5.2. Using wooden dowels

Using wooden dowels in the MDP is indicated to reinforce the furniture structure, used separately or with tools. The striated wooden dowels may  obtain a better result when glued.

The minimum distance recommended for fastening pegs in the surface must be approximately 30 mm from the panel edge.

The hole for fastening the dowel must be equal to or a little larger than its diameter. It is also advisable to glue the dowel the surface.

5.3. Market devices and tools

The furniture must be structured by means of devices, as wedge-lock hinges, mini-fix, cylindrical nuts, trapezium devices and slides, shelf supports, pullers and other solutions used for the thicknesses of MDP. Always ask the tool vendor.


6. Painting the raw MDP

For a perfect finishing of the raw panel, it is necessary to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of paints for wood, as per the finishing to be applied. If the same finishing of surface and top is required, the edges should be headed.

The part should be sanded with fine sandpaper, at least 220, and afterwards cleaned. The work area should be clean and free of dust.

The usual paint for Wood can be applied with conventional or airless spray guns in paint cabins, of which the processes are determined by the manufacturers.

For roller or curtain painting processes, it is necessary to prepare the surface which includes the sanding, application of leveling putty and painting with specific paints. Therefore, always see the paint vendor and the recommendations of the equipment manufacturer.

7. Coating the raw MDP

The raw MDP is an excellent panel for receiving coatings, with the high pressure laminate and the Wood laminate on the surface and top. The processes adopted must be those of cold or hot manual gluing, in accordance with the market equipment. This is possible due to the high density of the external layer of the MDP, which provides resistance to surface traction, necessary to ensure perfect finishing and gluing.

8. Cold coating manual application

For application with contact glue:
. Cut and coating to measure to provide a finishing;
. Apply two coats of glue to the part and to the laminate with a spatula;
. Wait the time indicated by the glue manufacturer to apply the foil to the panel;
. Wait the cure time indicated by the glue manufacturer.

Manual application of the laminate:

The Eucatex panels should be cleaned using a soft, dry cloth or one slightly moistened with water and neutral soap. Abrasives as steel wool and cutting objects must not be used.

To remove stains on the Eucaprint LPL  or Eucaprint Lacca, use a cloth slightly moistened with a solution of alcohol and water in equal parts.
